Here is a restaurant made for those special occasions, where the setting and the food are in perfect harmony with one another. This delightful 100-year-old house comes with a secluded rear garden and offers a charming and traditional setting for Chef Thanintorn 'Noom' Chantharawan's take on Thai cuisine inspired by the Rattanakosin period. A dazzling array of flavours accompanies the prime ingredients from across Thailand, in a set menu full of presentational flourishes. A true taste of Thailand in historic surroundings.

Pae Brass Pot Porridge 38 Years

Congee, Small eats · Bib

฿

Don't let the name mislead you – "38" is a nod to the founder's lucky number. This porridge hotspot has been simmering since 1962, serving up porridge in its signature brass pots for three generations. Our favourite is the mixed rice porridge option.

Prik-Yuak (Phya Thai)

฿฿

Prik-Yuak has flourished for 30 years, starting in the bustling Chatuchak markets and now stationed in a spacious, inviting location. The restaurant maintains its beloved approach to home-style Thai cooking. Signature dishes like the Southern Thai pork belly and egg stew showcase tender meat, boiled eggs, and tofu. The venue charms with light, earth-toned decor, a serene garden, and includes a café and boutique shop to enhance the dining experience.

Krua Apsorn (Dusit)

This family-run stall is inevitably a hit with anyone who eats here, including patrons such as the Thai royal family. The simplicity of the exterior belies the gem of a Thai kitchen hidden inside. Some dishes are unique and feature the family's secret recipes. The stir-fried pork with bird's-eye chilli is tender and bursting with herbal aromas. The signature yellow curry with large prawns and crispy lotus root strikes the perfect blend of sour, spicy and sweet.

This popular old town stand sells legendary braised beef noodles soup; choose from multiple juicy, slow-cooked cuts like cheek, tongue, tendon, shoulder and shank – or go for the mixed beef option. The aromatic and salty broth is what makes this version stand out from the crowd, delivering a wonderful mellow flavour. The meatballs are well worth ordering too, offering a rich, meaty taste and accompanied by more broth.

Jay Ngor Beef Noodle

฿

This 70-year-old eatery in a vintage low-rise block is near the historic sights of Dusit district. Now run by the family's fourth generation, it specialises in braised beef, tongue beef and hotpot – served with or without soup and a selection of noodles. The light brown broth is smooth, aromatic and packed with carefully braised meat. Order the mixed braised beef with offal and no noodles for the full effect. Arrive early for lunch as it gets busy.

Head to this unassuming yet charming restaurant for Thai home-style cooking in Bang Sue district. For over 40 years, diners have been relishing the cosy ambience and a Thai menu that favours seafood over meat. The crispy pork pairs up with a distinctive apple sauce; the tom yum coconut soup is enriched by the flesh of young coconut for a flavour that is a delightful deviation from the norm. Call ahead to nab a table at this neighbourhood gem.

This spot is best known for its deep-fried bananas. Coated in crispy batter made from coconut and white sesame, they exude a rich coconut aroma. The sweet potato balls are another standout. Be prepared for queues during peak hours.
