Uribia

Uribia, located in the La Guajira department of Colombia, stands out as one of the region's youngest municipalities. Nestled within the arid landscape, it serves as the hub for the northern zone of the Cerrejón coal mines. However, its true allure for travelers lies in the Serranía de Macuira, an isolated low-altitude mountain range that breaks the monotony of the desert. Approximately one-third of this rugged terrain is protected as a National Natural Park, offering a unique ecological contrast to the surrounding drylands. For hotel travelers, Uribia provides a strategic base to explore both the industrial significance of the area and its surprising natural biodiversity. The city's character is defined by this juxtaposition of mining operations and pristine wilderness, making it a niche destination for those interested in Colombia's diverse geography beyond the typical Caribbean coast resorts.
