Turangi

Tūrangi is a small town on the west bank of the Tongariro River, situated 50 kilometres south-west of Taupō on the North Island Volcanic Plateau. Originally built to accommodate workers for the Tongariro hydro-electric power development, it was designed to remain a small servicing centre for exotic forest plantations and tourists. Today, it is renowned as the trout fishing capital of the world. For hotel travelers, Tūrangi serves as a quiet, strategic base for exploring the surrounding lakes and forests, offering a peaceful retreat away from larger urban centers.
