Where to Base
It is recommended to base your stay at eco-lodges along the Tambopata River or near the reserve entrance. These locations facilitate early morning access to the rainforest and offer direct views of the natural landscape. Since the area is primarily composed of lodges rather than a dense urban hotel district, prioritize properties with strong ecological credentials and river access.
Getting Around
Transportation relies heavily on waterways. Access typically involves flying to nearby airports followed by boat transfers along the Tambopata or Madre de Dios rivers to reach your lodge. Road infrastructure is limited, making boats the essential mode of transport for connecting accommodations with key natural attractions and viewing platforms.
Best Season
The dry season, from May to October, offers the best conditions for visitors. Lower water levels concentrate wildlife along riverbanks, significantly improving observation opportunities. While the rainy season brings lush vegetation, some areas may become inaccessible due to flooding, and insect activity tends to be higher.
