Where to Base

There are no large hotel clusters on the island; accommodations are scattered among traditional houses with red-tiled roofs. It is recommended to book local minshuku (guesthouses) in advance to experience authentic Ryukyu culture. Most activities and attractions are concentrated near the port and the village center, allowing easy access on foot.

Airport Connection

There is no direct airport on Taketomi Island. Travelers must first fly to Ishigaki Island (IATA: ISG) and then take a ferry to Taketomi Port. The entire journey from Ishigaki Airport to the island typically takes around 2-3 hours, including transfer times.

Best Season

Spring through autumn offers warm and pleasant weather, making it the best time for visits. Summer requires caution due to typhoons, while winter is windy but less crowded. The island is accessible year-round, but accommodation should be planned well in advance during peak seasons.
