Where to Base
Base yourself in the central district near the municipal seat for easy access to services and dining. The city is compact, allowing most amenities to be reached on foot, which minimizes transit time and maximizes convenience for short stays.
Getting Around
There is no major international airport within the city. Travelers typically connect via Quetzaltenango or other regional hubs. Road transport is the primary mode; expect a drive of roughly one to one and a half hours to reach larger airports, so pre-arranging transfers is advisable.
Best Season
The dry season, from November to April, offers the best weather for exploring the region's farms and nearby coastal areas. While the rainy season brings lush greenery, the dry months provide more reliable conditions for outdoor activities and sightseeing.
