Where to Base
Hotels are primarily concentrated in the town center, offering easy walking access to wineries, restaurants, and the historic district founded in 1840. Staying centrally allows guests to immerse themselves in the quiet, authentic atmosphere of the Valles Calchaquíes without needing immediate transportation.
Getting Around
There is no airport in Cafayate. Travelers typically arrive by road from Salta City (189 km away) or Buenos Aires (1,329 km away). The town itself is compact and walkable, but visiting surrounding vineyards and the Calchaquíes valleys is best done by rental car or organized tour.
Best Season
Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather ideal for outdoor exploration and wine tasting. Due to the high altitude of 1,683 meters, summer days are mild but require sun protection. Winters can have significant temperature drops between day and night, so warm clothing is recommended for comfortable stays.
