Venissa

★ Michelin€€€€Country cooking, Contemporary

Far away from the tourist hordes, Venissa is situated in a small walled vineyard dating back to the Middle Ages – complete with 14C belltower – on the small island of Mazzorbo, a magical setting which is perfect for a short stroll before settling down to eat. In addition to the Dorona di Venezia vineyard, the restaurant also has a kitchen garden which provides most of its vegetables, including unusual varieties such as “castraure”, a type of local artichoke. Once out of the garden, you come to a small wooden bridge which links Mazzorbo to neighbouring Burano, where you can complete your visit

TripAdvisor review sample · 3.6/5 · 102 reviews

Venissa offers a unique dining experience in Burano, accessible via complimentary water taxi. The cuisine focuses on contemporary Italian country cooking, highlighting local, seasonal ingredients with high technical skill. Dishes like castraure and Triaca are praised, though some find the chef's philosophy too avant-garde or inconsistent. Service is generally warm and detailed, explaining each course thoroughly, although occasional delays and responsiveness issues were noted. The ambiance is intimate and enchanting, set against the Venetian lagoon. While the setting is stunning, some guests criticize the high wine prices and question the value for money, feeling the conceptual experience sometimes outweighs culinary pleasure.

Suitable for diners seeking a unique lagoon setting and avant-garde regional cuisine, willing to accept higher premiums for an immersive conceptual experience.

Ai Do Campanili

€€€Seafood, Traditional Cuisine

Both the building in which it is housed and the dining room of this restaurant are on the small side, but the quality of the food more than compensates for the lack of space. Run by young and enthusiastic staff, the restaurant specialises in fish and seafood with raw options and modern dishes featuring on the menu. Excellent selection of wine, also available to take away.

TripAdvisor review sample · 4.5/5 · 80 reviews

Located in Burano, Ai Do Campanili is noted for traditional seafood and refined ambiance. Most reviews praise fresh ingredients and well-executed dishes, including fried items, seared tuna, and signature pastas, complemented by an extensive wine list. Service is generally described as friendly and professional, with an elegant, quiet setting suitable for couples or special occasions. However, opinions on value are mixed; some find prices high relative to the experience, while others note issues such as poor ventilation, limited menu variety focusing heavily on squid/octopus, and a lack of originality. While culinary quality and service are frequently highlighted as strengths, comfort and perceived value remain points of contention for some diners.

Suitable for couples or special occasions seeking high-quality traditional seafood and a romantic atmosphere, though checking ventilation and menu options in advance is advised.
