A recently restored Victorian townhouse that was formerly home to a goldsmith’s now plays host to this smart restaurant. Start with a drink in the cosy bar before enjoying boldly flavoured dishes that come with a refined look but a traditional Hungarian heart, such as Mangalitsa fillet with gnudi and cottage cheese. In warmer weather, these are best enjoyed in the enclosed courtyard, along with a bottle or two from the proudly Hungarian wine list. Service is smooth and eager to please, and comes together with elegant bedrooms and a mini spa in the basement to help create a charming picture.

WebsiteIts name means ‘Culinary Workshop’ but that feels like doing it an injustice, as this is a beautiful, elegant spot. It's hidden away behind locked gates in a city centre courtyard and everyone is greeted at 7pm by the infectiously enthusiastic chef-owner. Seasonal ingredients feature on a highly personalised tasting menu which cleverly blends the old and the new. Flavours are memorable, sauces are a highlight and the chef describes every dish with heartfelt passion. The price also includes a carefully curated selection of drinks featuring many local biodynamic and organic wines.
