Where to Base
Staying near the port is highly recommended for easy access to ferries connecting to Athens and neighboring islands. Boutique hotels in the old town offer a quieter atmosphere while maintaining convenient access to transportation and local amenities.
Airport Connection
The island has no airport. Travelers must first reach Athens and then take a high-speed ferry from Piraeus or Rafina ports. The journey typically takes between 50 to 70 minutes, making it the primary mode of access for visitors.
Getting Around
The town is small enough that major sights and restaurants are within walking distance. For more distant beaches or monasteries, renting a small vehicle or taking local buses is convenient and efficient for exploring the wider island.
Best Season
May through October offers the best weather for visiting. While summer brings more visitors, spring and autumn provide a more serene experience with pleasant temperatures and the distinct fragrance of the island's pine forests.
