Health
Use normal food/water precautions: prefer bottled/treated water, hot cooked food and good hand hygiene. WHO certified Tajikistan malaria-free in 2023, but use insect protection for ticks, sand flies and mosquitoes. Summer heat can be intense in lowlands; Pamir/Fann routes bring altitude, cold, UV and remote-care risks. Carry needed medicines and consider evacuation cover.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic at least 4 weeks before travel. Be up to date on routine vaccines such as MMR, polio, Tdap, varicella, flu and COVID-19. CDC recommends hepatitis A and B for unvaccinated travelers, typhoid for most travelers, and rabies pre-exposure discussion for animal contact, outdoor work or remote trips. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended and no certificate is required for entry.
eSIM / connectivity
eSIM is not as widely/easily sold by local operators as in larger markets; verify before relying on it. Main networks are Tcell, MegaFon Tajikistan, Babilon-Mobile and ZET Mobile. 4G is strongest in Dushanbe and larger towns and can be patchy in mountains. Travelers commonly use a local physical SIM/data package from carrier shops or an international roaming eSIM that explicitly lists Tajikistan.
