Health
Togo is tropical and low-altitude; heat, sun and dehydration are practical concerns, while altitude sickness is not. Malaria risk is countrywide, so discuss prevention with a travel clinic and prevent mosquito bites. Use safe food/water practices, avoid untreated freshwater because schistosomiasis occurs, and seek care for fever during or after travel.
Vaccinations
Before travel, consult a doctor/travel clinic. Be current on routine vaccines including MMR, polio, flu, varicella, Tdap, shingles/pneumococcal as applicable, and COVID-19. CDC recommends hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, and yellow fever for Togo; yellow-fever vaccination certificate is required for arriving travelers aged 9 months or older. Ask about malaria tablets, meningococcal vaccine for dry-season meningitis-belt travel, and rabies vaccine for higher-risk itineraries.
eSIM / connectivity
Local mobile service is mainly Yas Togo, formerly Togocom/Togocel, and Moov Africa Togo. As of this check, local tourist eSIM products are not widely advertised by the carriers; travelers with eSIM-only phones usually rely on international travel eSIM roaming. For local numbers or cheaper local data, expect to buy a prepaid SIM/data bundle from carrier shops with ID.
