Health
Use normal Caribbean trip precautions: eat freshly prepared food, wash hands, and use treated/bottled water if local supply is interrupted or if hiking. CDC flags mosquito-borne dengue, Zika and chikungunya risk, so use repellent and screened/AC rooms. Heat, sun and dehydration matter; hike the Pitons early, carry water, and avoid fresh, unchlorinated lakes/rivers because schistosomiasis is reported. No high-altitude illness issue for typical itineraries.
Vaccinations
Consult a doctor or travel clinic at least 1 month before travel. CDC advises being up to date on routine vaccines, including MMR, Tdap, polio, flu, varicella/shingles as applicable, plus COVID-19. Hepatitis A is recommended for unvaccinated travelers; hepatitis B for unvaccinated travelers of all ages; typhoid for most travelers, especially rural/smaller-city or local-home stays. Rabies pre-exposure vaccine is only a discussion for higher animal-exposure trips or limited access to care. Yellow fever vaccine is not recommended for Saint Lucia itself and is not required from the U.S.; proof is required for travelers aged 9 months+ arriving from yellow-fever-risk countries.
eSIM / connectivity
Connectivity is generally good in visitor corridors, but do not assume local eSIM activation is universal. The main mobile networks are Flow and Digicel; visitors commonly use roaming, international travel eSIMs that list Saint Lucia, or buy a local prepaid physical SIM/data plan after arrival. Check handset band support and carrier eSIM availability before departure, especially if you need data immediately at UVF/SLU airport.
