Juan Santamaria International Airport SJOMROC

Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) is Costa Rica’s main international gateway, in Alajuela about 17-20 km from central San Jose. It is not a mega-hub like Panama City, but it is the country’s key airport for international arrivals and a practical regional connector: Avianca Costa Rica, SANSA and Costa Rica Green Airways use SJO as a hub/base, while Copa, United, American, Delta, JetBlue, Iberia, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa and others link it to Central America, North America, South America and Europe. Frequent flyers should think of SJO as a compact main-terminal airport with a separate domestic terminal for small-aircraft Costa Rica routes, useful lounges, and straightforward ground transport, but with limited true airside layover infrastructure.
