Tocumen International Airport PTYMPTO
Tocumen International Airport (PTY) is Panama City’s main international airport and the operating heart of Copa Airlines’ Star Alliance hub, marketed around fast same-day connections across North, Central and South America plus the Caribbean. It also handles selected long-haul links to Europe, so the airport feels more like a connecting bank than a pure origin-and-destination airport. PTY has two passenger terminals: the older Terminal 1 and the newer Terminal 2/South Terminal. Copa and other international flights can use gates in either area, so frequent flyers should rely on the live gate display rather than assuming a fixed terminal by airline. The terminals are connected as one airport complex; for connections, stay airside when eligible and allow time for a potentially long walk between far gates. For the city, the fastest practical choice with bags is usually an authorized taxi or ride-hail via the Corredor Sur, roughly 30-45 minutes in normal traffic. Metro Line 2 now reaches the airport and is useful if you are traveling light, but reaching central areas normally means changing at Corredor Sur/San Miguelito toward Line 1, so plan closer to 50-70 minutes door to door.
