Carrasco Gral. Cesareo L. Berisso International Airport (MVD) is Uruguay’s main international gateway for Montevideo, but it is not a major global alliance hub. Passenger service is mostly regional across South America and nearby connecting points, with long-haul links such as Madrid and seasonal Miami depending on airline schedules. The airport has one modern passenger terminal rather than separate domestic/international terminals, so transfers are physically simple: departures and arrivals are split by level, and all normal passenger processing happens in the same building. For the city centre, the most practical frequent-flyer choice is the official airport taxi/remise or a pre-booked transfer from Arrivals; allow roughly 30–45 minutes, longer if traffic is heavy. For layovers, MVD is compact and comfortable but not a big airside transit complex: there is no true airside hotel, so overnight rests are better planned landside or at nearby airport-area hotels.
