Maputo International Airport (MPM), also known as Mavalane, is Mozambique’s main and largest international airport and the home base for LAM Mozambique Airlines and Moçambique Expresso. Treat it as a national and Southern African regional gateway rather than a large global hub: LAM is not in a global alliance, while alliance-linked carriers such as Ethiopian, Kenya Airways, Qatar Airways, TAP Air Portugal and Turkish Airlines provide onward access through their own hubs. The airport is close to central Maputo, so taxis or pre-arranged hotel transfers are usually the most practical city option, but domestic-international connections can be less seamless than the short distance suggests because passengers may need immigration, baggage reclaim, a landside terminal change and fresh security screening.
