A great example of how a refined setting and fine cuisine are by no means mutually exclusive – and how the combination brings real joy to the many regulars it attracts to the restaurant. In one of Burgdorf's oldest establishments (an inn dating back to 1716), bistro tables foster a relaxed and informal atmosphere; the service is cordial, professional and well-organised. Notwithstanding the history of the building, the food served here is decidedly modern! Lukas Kiener cooks in a contemporary, creative and seasonal style, delivering well-balanced dishes that make a statement. He likes to source

In the restaurant of the grand Hotel Stadthaus, whichever one of the different rooms you are seated in, the same delicious cuisine is on the menu – from Swiss classics, such as Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, to vegetarian dishes and a set "Bistro Menu". There is also an ambitious "Gourmet Menu" on Thu-Sat evenings. The selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle is also impressive. In summer, you can enjoy your meal on the arcaded terrace at the entrance.

Wiesner Mysterion - Wiesner - Zauber
Creative, Regional Cuisine · ★ Michelin

Surrounded by untouched nature, this spot 1 052m above sea level in the Entlebuch Biosphere Reserve feels like a world of its own. With mountains and valleys, meadows and forests all around, this environment is a source of the most diverse ingredients and flavours. Stefan Wiesner's nature-inspired, alchemistic cuisine forms part of a unique, captivating and at times provocative experience – a kind of personal ceremony that it is well worth embracing. It begins with the chef-patron's opening words and includes glimpses into his artistic world, as well as diner participation in the finishing and

The 14th generation of the same family is at the helm of this gorgeous traditional Bernese inn – it was first documented in 1261. Whether you eat in the pretty, inviting dining area or the lovely garden, you will be treated to friendly service and delicious food with a traditional regional character. One speciality of the house is the Solothurner Wy-Süppli (wine soup). The chef will be happy to explain the origins of their rather special "Bärechöpfli" dessert. Slightly reduced menu at lunchtime. There are also stylish salons.

Up here, at an altitude of around 1 000m, there is much to get excited about: the phenomenal view of the Emmental and the Alps – either from the modern, elegant restaurant with its large window front or the magnificent terrace – is complemented by good food with a regional and seasonal focus. For a cheaper but equally indulgent alternative, head to Beiz. The terrific wine selection boasts around 900 different options. Chic guestrooms are available in the adjoining boutique hotel.

Wiesner Mysterion – Werkstatt Kost

Anyone heading to see the "Wizard of Entlebuch" in Bramboden should be prepared for something special. Like Wiesner – Zauber, Werkstatt – Kost is housed in the Weitsicht hotel. The location is simply magnificent; the terrace is idyllic, boasting one of the loveliest views in the whole region. Stefan Wiesner brings his nature-inspired culinary philosophy to the plate. For his four-course set menu, he sources ingredients from nearby woods and meadows, as well as the on-site garden – and prepares them using fire, embers and smoke. Tip: It's well worth spending the night. That way, you will have t

The exterior of this 17C half-timbered house exudes historical charm; the interior is traditional and lovingly decorated with upscale furnishings. It is the garden terrace, though, that is the real highlight! In the evening, there is an ambitious set menu, its appealing vegetarian alternative, or regional classics and modern dishes à la carte. More limited options at lunchtime. There is also a good wine list, and service is cordial and competent. Contemporary guestrooms for overnight stays.
