Taverne zum Schäfli
Creative, Farm to table · ★★ Michelin

A true culinary beacon in the region, this 300-year-old half-timbered house looks wonderfully inviting from the outside. Chef-patron Christian Kuchler leaves us in no doubt that he is a master of classic cuisine, but he also incorporates carefully balanced creative touches and Asian influences. His perfectly cooked poularde de bresse, accompanied by Albufeira sauce with a delicate peppery note and buttery-creamy mashed potatoes à la Robuchon, is as impressive as his sashimi with wasabi marinade and soy sauce. Excellent ingredients are the common thread throughout the entire menu – used without

What a lovely spot! This attractive building may be a bit out of the way, but it's worth the journey, especially in summer if you can secure a table on the wonderful garden terrace! But the elegant interior is just as inviting. Whichever space you plump for, you will be treated to courteous service – Bernadette Lisibach, the extremely friendly owner, also makes frequent appearances at the tables. She really puts her heart and soul into running this place, favouring honest cooking over unnecessary fanfare, yet delivering dishes full of flavour, character and carefully chosen ingredients. This restaurant is steeped in tradition, and much sought after for its excellent seasonal cuisine. The chef's expertise and his knack for preparing select ingredients with real flavour are evident in dishes such as spicy smoked trout tartare with dill mustard and marinated apple and beetroot salad, and braised veal cheek, Bramata polenta and green beans with dried bacon. At lunchtime, you can order à la carte or opt for one of four three-course set menus. In the evening, there is a tasting menu in addition to an à la carte selection. Attentive service comes courtesy of a friendly and well-orga

Landgasthof Wartegg
Classic French, Seasonal Cuisine

Run by the Frei family since 1982, this long-standing restaurant with its well-maintained shingle façade serves fresh, flavoursome seasonal fare rooted in classic cuisine and crafted from excellent ingredients. The set lunch is very popular. Tip: There is an especially fine selection of Swiss wines. Diners can choose between rustic cosiness and refined elegance in the various indoor spaces or head for the lovely tree-shaded terrace. Cosy guestrooms are available for overnight stays.

For over 30 years, this elegant restaurant with a pleasant terrace has been making the most of its wonderful location on the marina. The menu is inspired by the seasons; there is also an appetising set menu, which changes on a monthly basis, but the classics are just as much in demand. Book your spot at the traditional seafood festival – Festival de Fruits de Mer – from late November to late January. Other highlights are the extensive wine list, and friendly, professional service.

Krone am See

Right by the lake, complete with a small harbour, this modern, low-rise building stands next to the traditional Krone restaurant after which it is named. Inside, an upscale contemporary decor with clean lines welcomes diners; outside, the terrace beckons. As for the food, the good à la carte selection of Mediterranean, French and regional dishes has a pronounced emphasis on local, seasonal ingredients, such as Thurgau rainbow trout and salmon from Lostallo. In addition, there are two three- or five-course set menus, one of which is vegan. The extensive wine list features over 160 labels. For a

Christian Kuchler from Taverne zum Schäfli in Wilgoltingen is also behind this culinary hotspot here in nearby Bottighofen, in a lovely location by the marina. Under the direction of head chef Monika Huber (formerly sous-chef to Christian Kuchler), the food is ambitious. The menu is divided into "France", "Italy", "Iberian Peninsula" and "Classics". Your Mediterranean journey ranges from "rabbit roulade, raw ham, sage, courgette" to "scampi, fregola sarda, lemon, pepperoncini" and "Ibérico pork Alenttejana" to "tortelloni, tomato, burrata, Taggiasca olive". A really attractive restaurant: sleek, modern, spacious and – thanks to the large glass frontage – pleasingly bright, not to mention the view of the beautiful countryside. The leafy terrace with its shady chestnut tree is also very inviting. On the menu: flavourful cuisine prepared using excellent ingredients and drawing on Mediterranean and regional influences. Lunchtime options are more limited and more moderately priced.
