Blokzijl is a picture-perfect little slice of the Netherlands. Opt for a table by the window to enjoy the delightful view of the lock and the quintessential brick houses – from the upper floor you can even see the storks' nest across the street! The wall decorated with cartoons is also sure to draw the eye. When it comes to the food, the dishes on the menu are testament to the creativity of the talented chef. With an eye for detail, he bends organic and local produce to his will. Fine classic flavours are shaken up in occasionally daring combinations. The precise dosing creates intriguing nuan

Creative, Classic French · ★★ Michelin

De Lindenhof offers a unique experience that starts with the location: a splendid farmhouse with a thatched roof that exudes character and elegance. The English garden is magnificent – the scene could not be more idyllic! Out back is the chef's little sailing boat, in which he likes to cruise the canals (sometimes taking guests with him!). There are also luxurious guestrooms for a relaxing stay. But the main draws are the enthusiastic service provided by hostess Marjan and the ingredient-led cuisine of Martin Kruithof, a traditional chef who has moved with the times. This warm and welcoming restaurant is run by two larger-than-life brothers: chef Raimon and maître d' Peter Ian. You can look forward to dishes brimming with distinctive flavours, as in the finely spiced beurre blanc that lends a touch of indulgence to a perfectly fried slice of cod. Such culinary excellence characterises their classic fare as well as the more creative set menu. Be sure to ask your expert host for his beer recommendations – he has some real gems up his sleeve!

The warm, contemporary interior of this former school (coat hooks still in place) exudes a lively brasserie atmosphere. Chef Raymond crafts à la carte dishes and a tasting menu, presenting classic flavours with modern precision. Think succulent veal cheeks served with crispy pommes dauphine, onion compote and Belgian endive braised in orange. Two rich sauces – one mustard-based, the other a Spanish wine reduction – complete the dish. Confident cooking, in generous portions that leave a lasting impression.

Produce from all over the world, including succade (candied citrus peel), was once traded in this monumental warehouse dating back to 1860. Today, it is incorporated into contemporary cuisine served in an impressive setting that takes full advantage of its location on Stoombootkade (grab a table on the waterfront terrace if possible!). The dishes draw on influences from around the globe; succulent poussin breast, for instance, is given a twist with Asian spices. The chef finds creative ways to put vegetables and fruit in the limelight. The lunch and finger food options are slightly simpler, th
