Jilt Cazemier is certainly close to his suppliers: as you make your way to his restaurant, you will even spot the grazing lambs. A champion of local produce, he showcases its quality with consummate skill. When he prepares that locally raised lamb, he utilises the whole animal, from nose to tail. The depth of flavour of his main ingredient is enhanced by his intense sauces. His refined technique is evident in every dish, his playful garnishes providing refreshing contrasts. For example, he elevates lobster with a blend of salty herbs, a carrot puree with a bright orange flavour, a rich lobster

De Gaffel
Modern Cuisine
€€€
De Gaffel offers a dining experience steeped in rustic charm, beneath the thatched roof of a Saxon farmhouse warmed by a crackling open fire. The chef grows his own vegetables on site. He works with the finest ingredients and accentuates their quality with contemporary techniques. Featuring dishes such as an original take on vitello tonnato, and tender venison with a patiently reduced jus, a single surprise menu is served – you can choose to have four or five courses. Either way, the depth of the flavours and excellent value for money are guaranteed to have you smitten.

Landgasthof Backers
Country cooking, Classic Cuisine
€€
The Backers family business has a long tradition to its name, stretching back to 1843. Today, the sixth and seventh generations are running the show with great dedication. The fresh and flavoursome food draws on the region and the seasons, and ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible, including the venison and Diepholz geese. The restaurant is a long-standing member of the Slow Food community. There are also a few comfortable guestrooms. Try the "Backers zum Kennenlernen" deal: four-course regional set menu with drinks, plus overnight accommodation.

Classic country elegance and a setting radiating natural charm await you at this stunning estate. Inside, the wooden beams, terracotta floor and crackling fire create a special atmosphere. Regional ingredients come into their own in indulgent dishes. The tasting menu is outstanding, but the à la carte options – such as the classic tournedos Rossini – are equally tempting. For example, chef Berry Thüss serves a terrine of succulent short rib and white leek, with crispy asparagus tempura, al dente vegetables and an onion dressing. Definitely worth the journey!

Set within a charming old building in Gramsbergen, this modern restobar is an inviting spot where even a glance at the extensive menu is sure to bring a smile to your face. Highlights include medium-rare grilled entrecôte with a stroganoff sauce infused with smoked sausage, served with crispy fries. The rich tiramisu is simply irresistible, right down to the last spoonful. This is a place with something for everyone, prepared by a seasoned chef who is attuned to what diners want.

De Keuken van Arragon
Modern Cuisine
€€
In this former inn on the edge of the Spaarbankbos, Herco van Arragon cooks with his own signature style: seasonal, contemporary and sometimes surprising. A piece of skate wing, for example, is accompanied by grey shrimp, a bisque full of depth and a cream of sweet potato and ginger, powerful and precise. Inside, there is a relaxed, homely atmosphere. Cynthia welcomes guests with a smile and a chat, as if everyone here is a regular. Talk about genuine warmth! This is a place where experience and spontaneity go hand in hand.

On one side is Next wine bar, which is a stylish and trendy spot in which to sample vinologist Corine Vink's latest finds, served with freshly prepared bar snacks. Then there is the elegant restaurant with its chic decor, where Chiel de Groot incorporates his creative ideas into a surprise menu and beautifully presented plates of food. He likes to use produce from his own vegetable garden to bring his creations to life. Intensity is his guiding principle: a grilled sandwich filled with game stew, for instance, makes for an original accompaniment to a medium-rare roe fillet, an exquisite game j

Zur Waage M.E.B.
Regional Cuisine, Farm to table
€€
This long-established restaurant enjoys a charming location in the town centre, directly on the Leda River – in summer, the lovely terrace with a view of the museum harbour beckons! Inside, you can expect all the trappings of a traditional inn with the odd rustic maritime touch. Mario E. Brüggemann, who began his culinary career here as an apprentice, prepares fresh, flavoursome cuisine rooted in regional traditions and seasonal produce. The menu features items such as shrimp soup, North Sea plaice fillets or a duo of venison. Lunch options are a little more limited.
