Given his unique nickname, it would be a surprise not to have heard of Rafel Muria, the so-called ‘honey chef’, for whom this natural product is much more than a fad, given that his family have been involved in beekeeping since 1810 through their company artMuria. In this simple restaurant, this chef who trained in renowned restaurants in Spain, France and Italy focuses on high-level creative cuisine which he showcases via elaborate dishes involving the discreet use of honey to add balance and stability. The concept, which is attuned to conscious gastronomy and seeks to highlight the wines from

A gastronomic surprise tucked away in this small village in the Priorat wine region, nestled between mountains and surrounded by vineyards. Here, in this tranquil setting, chef Pieter Truyts, who trained in Michelin-starred restaurants in his native Belgium as well as in France and Spain, discovered the perfect place in which to “cook from the heart”, developing creative and highly interesting cuisine that showcases the very best local and seasonal ingredients, with a gift for combining them to maximise their flavour. There’s a small à la carte featuring traditionally inspired dishes with a mo

A complete surprise inside the isolated Gran Hotel Mas d'en Bruno, which occupies a restored farmhouse dating back to 1797 and surrounded by vineyards in the heart of the Priorat wine region. To the backdrop of a contemporary decor and open-view kitchen behind a large window, the seasonal cuisine on offer aims to recreate the flavours of inland Cataluña from a more modern perspective and with a focus on meticulous presentation. This is showcased on the à la carte and the option of a tasting menu (Vinum). It is well worth eating on the terrace, with its views of the surrounding mountains and th

South of Falset, just behind the beautiful building that houses the town's Cooperative Winery, this restaurant has taken a new direction under the leadership of chef Rafel Muria, who is flying high with his proposal at the award-winning Quatre Molins (in nearby Cornudella de Montsant, about 23 km (15 miles) away). In the dining room, sober yet elegant and with good views of the regional castle-museum that today delves into the history of El Priorat, you will find an à la carte service, a daily set lunch menu and three more tasting menus. We loved the scarlet prawn with potato parmentier ‘Robuc

Celler Joan Pàmies occupies a large 18C house where the use of locally sourced products is key, as is the maxim of “not rejecting the cooking of bygone days, but adding to it with imagination and vitality”. In the dining room, with its welcoming open fireplace and a space used to display fresh vegetables, guests can chat with chef Joan Pàmies, who often takes their orders in person. His traditional Catalan cuisine comes with an added contemporary touch, and can be savoured via the à la carte and several tasting menus (a weekday option, another inspired by the market and fish auction, plus the
