An exclusive little area in Hotel Görtler has been carved out for this restaurant. Its colour scheme echoes the surrounding nature – the tables upholstered in forest-green Alcantara are particularly striking. There is an open kitchen area, where diners can see some of the dishes being finished and plated up. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate, and the service is charming and relaxed yet sophisticated – thanks to the team, from the sommelier to the chefs, including chef-patron Johannes Steingrüber himself. With its creative, pleasingly pared-back combinations, the seven- to 10-course menu make

An interesting modern dining concept. It all kicks off at 7pm when the guests for the evening arrive. At 7.15pm, service begins. There is a single seven-course set menu (with additional amuse-bouche and final course) showcasing a global palate with strong Asian influences and delivering bold, distinct flavours. Plenty of umami and studied technique are the hallmarks of chef Luis Hendricks's cooking – these underpin the entire menu. Then there are the masterful desserts, such as a perfectly balanced black garlic and dark chocolate mousse, which, together with roasted pecan, banana ice cream and

"Welcome to the living room restaurant" are the words that greet you when you first look at your menu, and that pretty much sums up the pleasantly relaxed atmosphere in this establishment, whose upscale interior is modern and stylish with light wood furnishings. Service of the set menu begins at 7.15pm for all guests and the courses are served in sync. You should allow plenty of time for this dinner, but an entertaining evening is assured, with the numerous intriguing small dishes emerging from the open kitchen at a good pace, as well as the competent and charming service team led by Florian R

An intimate atmosphere pervades this small restaurant at Hotel Romantischer Winkel. The open kitchen is a central feature, allowing diners to see, hear and smell every detail. Communication with the team is warmly encouraged; after all, you are practically sitting in the thick of the action. Using primarily seasonal and regional produce combined with international spices, the kitchen creates cosmopolitan, inventive dishes. The restaurant hosts a "Großer Gourmetabend" (eight courses, Thu-Sat) and the "Kleiner Gourmetabend (six courses, Wed). A vegetarian set menu is also available, provided it

What was once the town hall is now home to a cosy yet on-trend restaurant that combines contemporary design with the warmth of wood and natural tones. The cuisine is ambitious, creative and modern, but at the same time agreeably down-to-earth. The names of the dishes are original, such as "Feuerstarter" ("Firestarter"): corn-fed chicken pot-au-feu from the charcoal grill, or "Geflüster" ("Whispers"): Ahrenholz catfish fillet, char caviar, pea medallions, leek, elderflower beurre blanc. The colourful, visually appealing creations are underpinned by meticulous preparation and are a joy to eat. I

Diners can opt to eat inside, in the stylish, elegant restaurant, or outside with a view of the historical castle grounds. The seasonal food is positively packed with flavours and aromas, and made with top-notch produce – regional wherever possible – such as game that they have hunted themselves or smoked fish from Leinetal. There is also a vegetarian set menu. The service is cordial and professional. Tip: The wine list comprises a broad selection of French red wines, alongside gin, korn schnapps, vodka and whiskey from the restaurant's own Hardenberg Distillery. "Novalis" comes from an ancest

The name sort of gives it away if you have any German: This attractive modern brasserie is housed in a former sugar factory, now a listed building. Exposed red brick walls and high ceilings give the setting an appealing industrial feel. In summer, the terrace is shaded by awnings. Flavoursome seasonally inspired dishes are served à la carte, with an additional set menu available. The waitstaff are pleasantly down-to-earth, very friendly and well organised.

Enrico Dunkel and his small restaurant have been a well-established part of the city's culinary landscape for years. His cooking style is ambitious, creative and draws on international influences. The set menu can comprise five, six or seven courses. Choose your accompaniment from the extensive selection of fine German wines. There is also a pairing menu. The interior is modern yet cosy. In summer, the pretty terrace beckons.
