Host and proprietor Anthony Sarpong runs an appealing restaurant-cum-cookery school. The Ghanaian-born chef is supported by a dedicated team, whose carefully considered dishes present a modern take on African culinary traditions. There are two set menus: "The Expedition" and the vegetarian "Green Journey", each available in a four-, five- or six-course format. This inconspicuous-looking restaurant is a stone's throw from the Hofgarten public park. Chef Daniel Baur and Olga Jorich have plenty of regulars here, and with good reason. The fresh, flavoursome dishes are carefully crafted using quality ingredients and represent excellent value for money. The veal rissoles are well worth trying. Neither will you be disappointed by the wine list! Olga Jorich's friendly and thoughtful approach to running the service plays a key role in creating the inviting atmosphere. What started as a shop selling eggs and butter later became a delicatessen and today this spot is a popular bistro with a pleasingly lively urban atmosphere and an open kitchen. The tasty dishes include German classics such as currywurst and Wiener schnitzel, but also international dishes. The food is accompanied by decent wines by the glass, and the service is friendly. Open from noon to 8pm, last orders 6.30pm. NB: They don't take reservations at lunchtime – so come early, as the place gets very busy.
